Getting Doxent as my secret mixter was both pleasing and daunting. Pleasing because I’ve admired Kuba’s unique compositions and arrangements for years. Daunting because I’ve already mixed so many of my spoken word pieces with his work and he’s such a talented musician and I’m not. I couldn’t hope to improve on his arrangements. Reading a poem over his work didn’t seem to be in keeping with the idea of Secret Mixter. The best I could do was to put some simple shakuhachi with his piano. I chose the instrumental version of snowflake’s This Winter. I really like his chord progression on this one. It’s a bit melancholy but that’s where I am at the moment.
